A senior producer in the Somali Service section, Mr Yusuf Garad Umar Ahmad, has commended Radio Banaadir for its objective and impartial coverage of events. He said the station could be heard in all corners of Somalia and outside the country.

Yusuf Garad was speaking at a luncheon hosted in his honour by the management of Radio Banaadir. He said he was happy to note that several independent radio and TV stations were operating in Mogadishu.

For his part, Mr Ahmad Nur Ali Dagaweyn Ahmana, the director of Radio Banaadir, said the station's management and journalists were delighted to be visited by a BBC official.

He said the visit would encourage contacts among journalists. Ahmana thanked the BBC for training his staff and donating equipment, and urged more training.
