At least
10 people were killed and eight others were wounded after
gunmen from rival Somali clans clashed in the Hiran region
in central Somalia in the past two days, elders said on Sunday.
The fighting
in Jaribey village, 60 kilometres (40 miles) northwest of
the Hiran regional capital, Beletwein, pitted gunmen from
Habr Gedir and Galjel sub-clans, both from the Hawiye clan.
Jaribey
is inhabited by the Galjels.
The majority
of the dead were gunmen, the elders told AFP by radio from
Beletwein.
The fighting,
believed to have been triggered by a business row over charcoal
exports to Arab countries in the Gulf, subsided on Sunday
morning after an exchange of heavy gunfire, the elders added.
