African foreign ministers concluded their annual meeting in Lome early Monday, expressing dismay at the "increased foreign interference and arms trafficking in Somalia," in breach of an embargo imposed by UN Security Council on the country since 1992.

In a draft decision on Somalia submitted to African leaders at their annual summit in the Togolese capital, the ministers launched "an urgent appeal" to all concerned countries to "scrupulously" implement the resolution in order to avoid jeopardising efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and national reconciliation in the country.

They expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Somalia as a result of the drought and insecurity, which continue to ravage the country.

The ministers also launched an appeal to member states and the international community to continue providing "the necessary assistance" to the affected people.
