Ten people
were killed and 15 others were injured in an armed confrontation
broke out Thursday in Galkaio, 800 kilometers north of the
Somali capital of Mogadishu, according to local radio reports.
Armed
conflicts between the two hostile clans of Habar Gidir and
Majerten in the central town of Galkaio, derived from a fighting
Wednesday afternoon when Majerten fighters sought extortion
money from the animal market dominated by the other clan.
The town
has fallen into the control of Majerten, led by Colonel Abdullahi
Yussuf Ahmed, who was also president of the regional government
of Puntland.
Local
analysts said the reason Ahmed chose to take control of the
town is to get more political support when his deputies, clan
elders and intellectuals of the clan have gone to the Djibouti
conference negotiating for the establishment of a new Somali
government.
Meanwhile,
another two separate armed confrontations also erupted in
southern Mogadishu Thursday, killing at least 13 people and
wounding 20.
